I don't believe in accidents or miscalculations of this magnitude. What is, is what was intended.

Let's go back to the beginning. At the start of Obama'a presidency, he had the votes to get almost anything he wanted passed.

How many votes did Obama have in the senate? How long did it take to pass the healthcare bill ? and WHY?

Your second paragraph is answered in your link....RIGHT HERE

Obama's greatest mistake was failing to listen to [Rahm] Emanuel on health care. Early on, Emanuel argued for a smaller bill with popular items, such as expanding health coverage for children and young adults, that could win some Republican support. He opposed the public option as a needless distraction.

The president disregarded that strategy and sided with Capitol Hill liberals who hoped to ram a larger, less popular bill through Congress with Democratic votes only. The result was, as the world now knows, disastrous.

Once you find the answers to my Questions here..How many votes did Obama have in the senate? How long did it take
to pass the healthcare bill ? and WHY?
... YOU will have ALL your questions answered ...

the biggest cost driver facing our government was the increasing healthcare costs. Not going after that would be crazy. Now what you say is true - he could have gotten more passed but remember the first thing was the needed stimulus. He did that although we now know it was not big enough. So he then goes after healthcare and the Republicans played rope a dope with him as he mistakenly thought he could actually deal with them. If there was anything he did wrong it was waiting for the Senate to move forward.

I think you are far to hard on him when he tried to be bipartisan. Oh and after Kennedy died it was Katie bar the door on filibusterers.

Oh and you can't address the rising cost of healthcare until you get everyone insured and then go after modernizing the system of sharing information which was part of the bill.

wall, on your "but ok. Let's go back to the beginning. At the start of Obama'a
presidency, he had the votes to get almost anything he wanted passed." ..

YES, you have been reminded of the situation in the Senate, by Steph .. anyway here is
more detail in the open again .. it's a repeat, hope that's ok .. repeat post starts here ..
................
on the myth of 2 year liberal control of the House ..

fuagf .. Friday, September 09, 2011 12:33:21 AM .. to Imcat ..

Even if you generously put all of the swing state Democrats into the “progressive” group, and that’s stretching it when it comes to certain votes, that put the president at minus 18 reliable “progressive” votes in the Senate.

And because Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made it clear from the start that he
intended to have his caucus use the filibuster on every piece of legislation, and vote as a
bloc, forcing Democrats to always need 60 votes to pass anything, those numbers really matter.

At best Obama was 16-18 progressive votes short on every measure. The Democratic
majority of 58 Dems and 2 Independents in the Senate lasted for exactly 5 months in 2009.
