Usually I look at the things that made America Great and see what groups were pushing the laws or programs to make us a better or more civil country. I can't think of one that social conservatives have put forth. There might be one out there that I have missed and that's why I asked if you knew of any. You respond with Raygun's quote or Bono's comments or appointments and then make the statement that conservatives are doing something about it. Yet you can't name something that they have been for that has made America great. I can tell you what they have been against - social security, medicare, aid to education, woman suffrage, pell grants, voting rights, eliminating the poll tax, civil rights, unemployment compensation, minimum wage, welfare, equal rights, affirmative action (from the very beginning) and on and on and on.

So as you were saying what did the conservatives do? This is the group you are so proud of? The group with all the moral values? I can't see it.

Both of them strictly symbolic appointments. Has there ever been a secretary of state more at odds with his own administration and more regularly run over by his own administration than Colin Powell? What a humiliating and sad end to his career. If Bush really cared about minorities, he would have saved them the embarrassment of seeing Powell used and abused like a loyal slave for 4 long years. Condi Rice - promoted mostly for her skills at lying convincingly and loyally - will get the same treatment but hasn't reached the stature yet where she cares or even notices.

The minority voting block isn't buying into this charade either by the way. Where the 11% comes from I'll never know. Probably the armed forces where many feel a deep duty to support the CIC regardless of merit.
