goodluck
Or is the GDP number pulled from someone's ass?
Over the last year or 2 many including me doubt the validity of the economic numbers. Notice how they are always "revised" and often made more negative well after the first report (after people forgot about it)
I dont know if the stats are a guess, semi serious or at times when they think "important" are they just cooked??? I don't think we can really know for sure..but there are many doubters.
im sure mlsoft will give you more detail

"Can someone tell me how it is that GDP grew at 4% in the Sept quarter, yet all of the companies and sectors that I follow reported punk profits and everyone complains constantly about how slow business is and how low visibility they have?

Or is the GDP number pulled from someone's ass?"

Goodluck. Simple answer: it's called "profitless prosperity". Just because the economy grows doesn't mean that companies will make money. As a microcosm, look at AMD and INTC. They might double their market, but they'll just keep cutting each other's throats while they do it, and thus not making bigger profits.

A secondary answer is that it is our service economy that is growing, and you may be following manufacturers...
