Goodluck. Simple answer: it's called "profitless prosperity". Just because the economy grows doesn't mean that companies will make money. As a microcosm, look at AMD and INTC. They might double their market, but they'll just keep cutting each other's throats while they do it, and thus not making bigger profits.
A secondary answer is that it is our service economy that is growing, and you may be following manufacturers...
