Several things caught my eye in today's IDCC Press Release (with my comments in red).
First there was this in the PR
We are grateful for their support on our technology demonstrations and "we look forward to initiating additional relationships during the show."That's corporate speak for "new licenses are coming"
another thing that caught my eye was this comment
"InterDigital's advanced solutions directly benefit component, device and infrastructure manufacturers, network operators, content and applications providers, and billions of consumers globally." That's corporate speak for "we are getting ready to start signing licenses with a whole new group of customers including base station manufacturers, carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, etc.) ...and I haven't even been thinking about "content and application providers".
InterDigital at Mobile World Congress 2011: Showcasing a Suite of Next Generation Technologies That Enable Tomorrow's "Network of Networks"
Live Demonstrations With Technology And Product Partners Address Bandwidth Crunch And Network Congestion Challenges
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC) today announced it will showcase a suite of advanced, next generation wireless technologies during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on February 14-17, 2011. In collaboration with a broad range of partners, InterDigital® will demonstrate an array of technologies that will be at the core of tomorrow's wireless devices, networks and services worldwide, enabling more efficient mobile devices and wireless networks and a richer multimedia experience.
Under InterDigital's MWC theme of "Holistic Bandwidth Technologies," the demonstrations will feature collaborations with players across the wireless ecosystem - ranging from both major industry leaders to innovative start-ups. Featured partners in the InterDigital demonstrations include Alcatel-Lucent, Attila Technologies, Cinterion, Continuous Computing, Intrinsyc, Option and Tata Elxsi. InterDigital's Research and Development efforts are guided by its vision of tomorrow's "Network of Networks," which envisions the seamless integration of advanced cellular systems with multiple communications networks, including other air interfaces that intelligently and constantly connect people and things across a myriad of wide, local and personal area networks.
Addressing three comprehensive areas of bandwidth innovations -- spectrum optimization, cross-network connectivity and mobility, and intelligent data delivery -- the company's live technology demonstrations will include:
•Connectivity and Mobility — A comprehensive suite of policy-driven technologies for maximizing throughput and quality of service across devices, networks and services, in collaboration with partners Attila Technologies, Continuous Computing, Intrinsyc and Option;
•Dynamic Spectrum Management — Cognitive techniques for harvesting underutilized spectrum such as TV white space, offering the potential for a dramatic and lasting solution to spectrum availability issues;
•Beyond LTE — Industry-leading work developing spectrally-efficient air interface solutions for LTE-Advanced and beyond, and next generation network topologies that dramatically enhance connectivity and reduce interference, supported by Tata Elxsi;
•Machine-to-Machine (M2M) — ETSI-supported standards compliant end-to-end service capabilities for seamlessly integrating M2M applications with cellular networks, allowing network operators the ability to remotely manage and control M2M devices and to offer M2M network services to third parties. In collaboration with Cinterion and Continuous Computing, this demo offers a compelling solution for transitioning M2M from a proprietary to an operator-based platform, reducing costs and driving adoption.
"The MWC is the premier event for the mobile industry and the perfect venue to feature our advanced solutions that address many critical and growing technical challenges spanning the wireless ecosystem," said William J. Merritt, President and Chief Executive Officer of InterDigital. "Our increasing number of high-caliber technology and product partners illustrates the relevance of our technology and InterDigital's impact on helping to shape the future of wireless. We are grateful for their support on our technology demonstrations and we look forward to initiating additional relationships during the show."
Building on the company's legacy of inventing fundamental technologies used in 2G, 3G and LTE devices, networks and services, InterDigital's advanced solutions directly benefit component, device and infrastructure manufacturers, network operators, content and applications providers, and billions of consumers globally. Attendees of the MWC are encouraged to visit InterDigital in Hall 1, stand 1D07, to explore how our advanced technologies can be integrated into your products and services for field testing and commercial deployment.
