x-dividend date = x-date for short. It refers to the date that a stock trades without the dividend, forward split, reverse split, spinoff, a new car, whatever they are giving or taking away.

Alll you need to know is if you buy on or before ex-divedend date (xdate) you get the shares/spinoff. :)
