The fast-growing $3 billion electronic tolling industry is projected to grow at a rate greater than 12 percent per year as government agencies increasingly rely on tolling to fund roadway infrastructure, construction and maintenance. FSTech’s solutions for electronic tolling, vehicle identification and classification, toll management software, license plate recognition, and parking lot fare collection systems, combined with 3M’s traffic management solutions, will advance the tolling and parking industry enabling seamless fare collection wherever motorists drive.

Inventor of Post-It Notes dies:

https://www.wsj.com/articles/3m-chemist-found-the-adhesive-used-in-post-it-notes-11621000800

Experimenting in a 3M Co. laboratory in 1968, Spencer Silver found something he wasn’t looking for: an adhesive that could hold two surfaces together but wouldn’t leave a residue when they were peeled apart.

The substance took the form of tiny spheres rather than a smooth film. “They were optically clear, soft and rubbery,” he told the New Jersey Star-Ledger later. Dr. Silver patented the adhesive and figured it must be good for something.

It took 3M more than a decade to decide exactly what it was good for… One of his early ideas for the adhesive was a sticky bulletin board that wouldn’t require thumbtacks. Post-it Notes became the preferred application when secretaries at 3M found the early versions irresistible.

Cushion Lock—another innovative product from 3M:

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/scotch-brand-cushion-lock-protective-171000963.html

…Cushion Lock [is] a sustainable solution made from 100% recycled paper that protects products well, is easy to use and is easy to recycle. [It]…expands by 60 times its original volume when slight tension is applied as the paper is unrolled. The Japanese art of kirigami inspired this design innovation that turns a flat sheet of paper into a three-dimensional product. Combining the art with precisely engineered cuts and folds, Cushion Lock replicates the protective and cushioning qualities of plastic bubble while eliminating the need for plastic -- filling packing boxes with less material and without the additional packing supplies typically required to secure and stabilize contents. The wrap tears by hand and its advanced self-locking technology readily fastens to itself, no scissors or tape needed to cut and secure.

Plastic bubble wrap is a $1.75B market in the US alone.
