#15227 RE: The Grabber #15203

OT but useful... <grin>

Basically it is becasue my last name begins with the letters
G-R-A-B. The rest being 4 consonants that most folks can't pronouce (I'm of Polish descent).

Hi, Grabber,

I've Polish in me as well from my mother's side. One hobby I've had over the years has been international shortwave station listening. Many stations broadcast in English, and there are a good number of them now that even have some form of Internet broadcast so you don't even need a specialized short-wave receiver anymore! A good umbrella spot to listen to many stations from around the world can be found at http://www.wrn.org - they also carry Radio Polonia - the external service of Radio Poland, hence my chiming in with this info. So this way you can learn about what's going on from the old country - with their contemporary views of events and culture. Check 'em out - and other stations as well. I got a free CD from the Belgian group "Confuse the Cat" called "Kiss, Kiss, Kissinger" writing in an email to RVI (Flanders Radio International) off of one of their promo reviews. Songs are in English and they've a nice, mellow sound. http://www.confusethecat.be is their website and last time I looked they had a cute flash-animated kitty. China Radio International has good mailings of cultural and business events in China for people who write in or answer radio contests. So, it's a nice way to learn more about some of the other people occupying this little blue marble we're all spinning around on. Also quite useful to get other perspectives on world events other than the US media and views. What's most interesting is to listen to both sides in some conflict - one side's "freedom fighters" are the other side's "terrorists."

Enjoy!

Best,
