You know.......I think I have a faulty point of view.I realized (again!) that I was forgetting the oil-digesting microbes.So,in the Axelrod demo,it really isn't necessary to "retrieve" the oil (from the sand) or get every drop of oil...because the sorbent's use in that application is not only to hold(lock up) the oil,but to create a home for the microbes to start their work.So THAT demo was really for soil remediation and not for oil retrieval at all(or really necessary,IMO,to have ALL the oil locked up. Does that sound right.
And,as for surface contamination (on water or land), the sorbent's purpose WOULD be more to capture(lock up) as much oil as possible,since it's purpose IS the retrieval of the oil(and less,if any) about the microbial digestion process.
So,we have two,very distinct applications for Mop sorbent: oil retrieval and soil remediation.
And Mop's approach to each situation is totally different.
Just to clarify.....
