Kev....It's a 26.5% HIT!!

If you actually understood how the tech works you
would know it's impossible for there NOT to be a
performance hit with FDE software products....

SC magazine ran a performance test...unlike Gartner
they didn't get paid.....

"WinMagic's SecureDoc package Provides advanced encryption standard (AES) encryption of the entire hard drive. Supports two-factor authentication through it also the use of smart cards and USB tokens.

The software provided to read the token was not readily available on the accompanying CD, so we Decided to use password authentication, which was much Easier to configure.

At two hours, SecureDoc was in the middle of the pack in terms of the time it took to the products we encrypt our Tested drive. However, once the drive was encrypted, the Performance Reported a hard-drive speed test software degradation after the install of 26.5 per cent of the SecureDoc disk encryption software, we came across the greatest slowing down. This was the only product that provided Tested Using a proprietary interface logging even in standalone mode.

SecureDoc very easy to install with the small exception of the USB token. The quick-start guide that was all we needed was provided to get the software ready for use. The product uses pre-boot authentication.

Documentation for this solution comes in the form of PDF files, which are indexed, searchable and easy to navigate. The product is simple to configure, and the quick-start guide is more than sufficient for most types of installation.

WinMagic offers phone and email support, as well as online assistance in the form of a Frequently Asked Questions, plus a support file download section.

Generally speaking, while we were impressed with SecureDoc's ease of use and feature set, we were disappointed with its Generally slow performance encryption when the package was installed. We could also think the pricing is more competitive.

Priced at the higher end of the spectrum in this group test, WinMagic's SecureDoc Provides a quality whole disk encryption product package that would adequately Perform its job.

This Gallagher fellow from Bayshore Home Health completely ignores Seagate, Samsung, Toshiba, and Hitachi SEDs, that completely obviate the need for the mojo of WM. There has to be a family connection to WinMagic or they gave them the software in leu of PR or something. This guy sounds like he's PRing for his vendor. Wierd - there is something underneath this.

PR's are usually something like 'We are pleased to select WM. WM will make us more competitive in the market place and help us ensure the privacy of our lovely customers. They are proven leaders and are a great match for our wonderful company ect ect.'

Instead, he states the defensive talking points of WinMagic's marketing department. - That's weird.

Your question:

Are we allowed in Canadian markets?

Yes, the laptop I am now using is proof of that! Glad I can clear up that item of FUD.

And I can also confirm, through side by side tests with my other Dell laptop, that my solid state SED and activated TPM definitely do not slow down my new laptop. It's actually blazingly faster. And it also gives me immense peace of mind from a data safety point of view.
