OT Ahead of you, as I age I recognize my loss of strength so home defense is necessarily mechanical. Here come the Judge(Taurus that is). I am not going to carry all day long so several locations with protection. No longer any children and no location accessible to grandkids.

Might I suggest you look into getting yourself a crossbow, they even make a small, hand held version which will do the trick!

Then again, there's the old standby, a Louisville slugger!

Sorry to hear about your breakin, gt, but perhaps it was, as you say, a wake-up call that will save your life in future. Sounds like an amateur or a druggie -- a professional you would never have known was there until you woke up in the morning (if you woke up!).

Statistically crime rises as the economy falls. It is a great pity one now has to think about self-defense in one's own home, but it is what it is. Many of my friends have recently become gun-owners and I believe that to be a necessity these days, unfortunately (doesn't matter how big or how young you are if the other guy has a gun and you don't!). The days of never locking one's front door are gone forever. . .

Anyway, all's well that ends well. You'll learn to love your gun. . .

OT......I would have had reach to the other side of my bed stand where a 10 gauge is ready to rock/roll......but I think my dogs would have had the situation under control......normaly there's three in the house and three outside in the kennel.
