Thanks for the report as I had to delay my trip to ky. For those questioning the veracity of the pic, it is Gwenco, can't vouch for when it was taken, but it doesn't surprise me that gene has the mine running.

Smaz is correct on the type of continuous miner. Still the wrong size, but you go with what you have.

I did notice something based on the pic and smaz's comments. Coal production is sporadic. Normally, as coal is flowing off the belt, the loader is loading onto a truck. Moving coal from one spot to another is very inefficient. My guess is that they are not at full production, rather ramping up operations.

your photo clearly exposes the [salt job] black coal is flowing from the belt onto a gray pile on the ground. that gray heap pile came from the mine, it's on every one of your photo's, that same pile, that black coal was trucked in, it has already been washed, this IS the same crap that was pulled with the last photo shoot. that mine is closed, there is zero production at that site.
