OT Bruce, Sticking to plan. picked out 3 sturdy hotels in various area's booked through out Florida. Going with best bet and leave early Sunday Morn 4:00 a.m. or so unless Ivan the Terrible moves elsewhere . Have a mother 3 pets and a friend with 2 pets, so hopping a plane is out of the question. Thanks for your updates neighbor! Feel so sad and helpless for the elderly here who are without family and alone. So many folks in that situation here in retirementland! At least they are opening some shelters and additional hotels now for pets!
I was born in South Florida and have lived here all my life, considered a boomer, I've been through many hurricanes.
I too have several maps and yesterday morning they had IVAN going to western panhandle and the closest city on the map was New Orleans (remember, I said, EAST of New Orleans If you actually read my post, I said they call the evacuations way too early, but I also said, they have no choice, due to conditions
Hi Bruce, I wish this beast would keep tracking in one direction instead of returning again to the center of the state.
For comparitive purposes, the last recent view of the Navy model below had the tracking line going between the 't' and the 'a' in Sarasota towards the first 'C' in Cape Canaveral.
I have been watching IVAN as close as anyone not working with the hurricane center. There has never been a time since it was being tracked just off the coast of Africa that NOAA has said anything west of about 100 miles off Naples Florida.
I sincerely hope you don't live in Florida as that kind of thinking may cause you to wait too long to evacuate and get yourself and your family hurt.
I stayed in my home for Frances and saw trees do things I would have never believed possible. If they call for any stronger winds here I will be gone a full 24 hours early.
I hear the Gumbo is really good this time of year. (g)
The cone of possibility is getting smaller and New Orleans is still very much in the picture:
