Data, i've made that same point before on the benefits of stretching in out if IDCC looks for a price moving forward not back, but still, that outlay of cash requires some smart hired hands and negotiators to report exactly to nokia what's in for them down the road and there is still wild cards being played.

Now that we have samsung cash, possible chip traction, (and who knows close on other tier 1s) which makes for a good base, is nokia positive we won't go past the ruling? Which IMO would "cost" them much more.

Data,

but I expect that Nokia is well aware that reduction in royalties, especially in Nokia's case, could be much greater.

If that will be the case, then Nokia made a wise investment.

Then the question that Nokia has to ask. Can Nokia get a better settlement in August than in April? What if the staff report was in favor of IDCC this time? What if IDCC significantly improve its presentation at the hearing?

data, imo, nokia now has a much clearer understanding of what, "reduction in royalties, especially in Nokia's case, could be much greater," means. i believe the samsung deal has set the parameters--along with the mythical "substantial progress"--that settlement is a foregone conclusion. likewise, idcc has realistic expectations.

do you think mot and s/e will be easier to get licensed after sammy's and nokia's validation of idcc IP?
