"Berlin are quite saddened by the inevitable openings of this plant next to our houses, schools, retail district and playgrounds."

But a gambling casino and the drugs, alcohol, prostitution, and other crime and social problems that go with it is OK.

WHAT A JOKE! Give me and my family a clean, quiet, useful biomass plant and chimney any day.

IMO, if the community of Berlin decides to work in partnership with Laidlaw the project can certainly be in the mutual best interests of both sides...

However, that would mean the local government officials would need to reach out to MBB as he has recently reached out both to the community and its elected representatives...

I remain hopeful that outcome will eventually prevail...

Realistically B, I would bet that the fireplaces in homes downtown will produce more harmful smoke than the plant. Heck, if they used the byproduct(heat) of the plant, they could kick their fireplaces altogether. It might actually offset to a positive impact.

I'll ask these question once more:

Why didn't Berlin purchase the property when it knew in advance that the mill would be closing?

Why didn't they seek some outside developer to purchase the plant if they couldn't afford it?

What other viable, revenue generating plans are/ were in the works for the property?

Why is the mayor and town council still fighting the battle?

I walked downtown Berlin the day before the fire. There is not a lot of people just walking around.

I did see one guy who looked mentally ill walking the bridge over to East side though!
