Does anyone know whether one can install DOS on a computer that has been set up to run the latest Win OS without corrupting it?

Yes. You must re-partition your hard drive to allow for booting into DOS. Partition Magic is a software package that will allow you to do this. You can boot into any operating system you have individually installed on relevant partitions. But, you can't switch from one OS to the other without rebooting.

Looks to me like it might be less painful over the long run to go ahead and bite the bullet and adapt to an updated spreadsheet program. But that's JMHO.

I still am using my ancient DOS based Lotus 123, but it looks like those days are numbered. Next generation Windows formats will no longer support DOS

Since the "All New And Improved OS" usually needs a new computer anyway, why not keep the old one around for Lotus?
Unless you run out of desk space :-)

Hi Tom,

I used Quattro a few generations ago. It's original design intentially used Lotus 1-2-3 commands, making it very easy for 1-2-3 users to switch over to Quattro. Lotus screamed foul at the time, but I don't think they were actually able to force Quattro into changing anything.

My boss at work uses Quattro for Windows and refuses to move to Excel, mainly because it is much easier to create and modify graphs in Quattro. So, play with it a little. Though it has been awhile since I used Quattro, my experience was that it was fully compatible with Lotus and easier than Excel.

It has lost a lot of popularity since Excel arrived on the scene, so I wouldn't want to guess how long quattro will sirvive. Perhaps its use is much more widespread than I imagine.
