Hi Rob, I agree that a spreadsheet is quite handy. I still am using my ancient DOS based Lotus 123, but it looks like those days are numbered. Next generation Windows formats will no longer support DOS.

Alas, that means several changes are going to be necessary at V.I.E.W. The Idiot Wave graphs are generated in 123 as well as my stacked bar summaries of VIEW's long term histories. I've attempted to generate similar graphs in Excel only to frustrate myself. Yes, one can create all the same graphs, but labeling and other features (including sizing) still give me fits.

Does anyone know whether one can install DOS on a computer that has been set up to run the latest Win OS without corrupting it? Bob Norman said he's reserving one of his older machines to run DOS based software (much he's written himself) since his latest machine won't touch the stuff.

Back before mutual funds were reporting "Average Cost Basis" for the shares I owned and sold, I'd created a quicky template for such calcs. That saved a lot of tedium at tax time. My Quicken 2001 can do the same thing for me now. I continue to report mutual fund transactions on Ave. Cost basis even though I report individual stock trades on a FIFO basis at tax time.

Best regards, Tom
PS: My latest computer came with Quattro. Does anyone have a feel for it? Maybe it would be easier to use than Excel?
