The reason for opposition at that time was the delay and extension benefits that Samsung realized from the proposed consolidation. They were well along in discovery and preparation for trial when Nok poked its nose into picture. They were also locking horns with Samsung over 2g arbitration appeals and believed that they would extract a settlement. They further did not want Samsung to have Nok working a two on one fastbreak against them making it harder to pin Samsung down for a settlement with its guru sitting on the same side of the courtroom. Finally, the Samsung lawyers do not seem to get the bizarre rulings that Nok lawyers receive.
