Danny, enjoyed your insight and advice re dealing with posts from folks who appear to have a "BAD" perspective. Best to leave those kind of "stink O" posts floating in the punchbowl with the nametag attached for all to see IMO. Nothing said in reply ever seems to change the poster's point of view, and on active boards like this one they get "flushed out" by the flow of constructive posts within a few minutes anyway.

Your post also sparked a more interesting thought. You described gathering facts before reaching a conclusion that should be based on those facts, and I certainly agree with that concept. One step that I've been working with involves doing some analysis even before gathering facts on potential investment opportunities.

Look around for emerging "change waves" and get comfortable that you have identified something specific and sustainable before beginning to identify and gather facts on specific firms that appear to be positioned to benefit from those changes. I'm talking about broad topics like the convergence of wireless telephones and personal computing(led me to look for wireless tech firms with patented technology robust enough to handle data transmission, and IDCC ended up being a pick after the fact gathering a few years ago), the discovery of the human genome and the impact it should bring in the drug development industry(still working on that one, but TLRK and ISIS were early picks doing well so far), and the therapeutic promise of stemcells(found one firm with patented and promising technology that is not dependent on, or limited by, the problems associated with embryonic sourcing).

Doing investment research that way takes effort(and a lot of patience), but then, nothing worth doing is ever easy!
