yourbankruptcy, Intel will have an easy time burying the 'megahurtz myth' because AMD has been doing the heavy lifting for them. We already see that with sales of Pentium-M (which is likely to be the foundation for Intel's P4 replacement).

Given that Intel needs to resolve the performance of 3 very different product lines - an aging P4, growing P-M and niche Itanium - maybe they will support an industry performance rating system. Son of TPI, co-developed between Intel and AMD, and administered by SPEC. Different from current SPEC benchmarks as this measure would be application-based and probably have sub-catagories (graphics, simulation, video, etc.).

That's nonsense.

There was no problem with Banias and there will be no problem a desktop part. Who even knows about the AMD rating system?

Intel will have a very hard time explaining that Ghz is not speed, while Athlon 64 will be a very established and strong platform at the time, with a PR rating of 6000. How Intel will position a 3 Ghz cpu against A64 6000 I wonder.

You are joking right?

YB, Re: From consumer point of view, the 5.5 Ghz P4 will be replaced with 3.0 Ghz P5. Do you honestly think AMD will try to use model numbers at that point? They would laughed out of town.
