His new deal is 10yrs for 275M while his previous deal was 10yrs for 252M. That seems like a pay raise to me. Plus he will collect an additional 30M in HR bonuses.
IIRC, the Rangers were also subsidizing his previous deal so the Yankees were paying him substantially less per year than his new deal.
I also recall statements from Yankee brass(including Hank) that if A-Rod opted out they would NOT negotiate or resign him. ...."It's goodbye". So either he's not a man of his word or it was just public posturing.
