Leukapheresis capacity has been an issue for years in the UK and expected to be a continuing issue for several more years to come as cell therapies gain traction. The fact that other sources of capacity did not develop fast enough likely left both NWBO and regulators in a quandary with regard to how initial demand might be met. NWBO responded to the need and may have found a way to get expedited NHS certification through existing structure which someone might have wanted them to be aware of since they were apparently approaching this issue differently at first.
