I've always used margin accounts, but rarely trade marginable securities cuz I mostly trade OTC and options...I like my money available as soon as I sell....your example must have been an errror as your oder limits the amount of shares you buy
It’s not anything to do with losing anything on margin as long as u don’t let ur investment stay on margin. Then the broker can use your shares for options contracts, without u knowing. And u end up with less if they get it wrong. It’s all on you.
