ramfan, when a company buys back its shares in the open market it goes back into the treasury and isn't considered outstanding. Hence, the financial games companies use to report better than expected EPS cause to fewer shares outstanding. Personally, I don't like buybacks. Why not use the funds to pay out a special shareholder dividend.
