Jet. You are correct. But not in 5 to 10 years. Quantum is now. Just like A I Also Quantum / Classical hybrid systems are now. Nvda cuda-Q software has been proven in tests with IonQ And to go 1 step ahead of that , heterogeneous quantum systems are already in the making. Quantum hybrid systems with gpu’s and qpu’s will solve the power problem. QPU’s use far less power, and are more cost effective. Using a combination of both, qpu’s for the combinatorial side, and gpu’s for the data side, will cut the energy needs by half. Plus IonQ quantum machines are already optimizing a power plant in Chattanooga. Power plants waste up to 60% of their energy switching on and off during peak and low demands. Quantum optimizes this switching and saves tons of energy. There are over 12,500 power plants in the U S alone. Quantum /classical systems are the future. And the future is now. Not 5 or 10 years from now. Ionq received their first contract for 22 million from E P B power in Chattanooga. Additionally, IonQ has been working on a related energy-grid optimization initiative with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) under the Department of Energy’s GRID-Q project. That effort involves demonstrating quantum-enhanced scheduling optimization (unit commitment) for power generators—but the direct $22 million commercial contract was specifically with EPB
It’s looking more and more like IonQ and Nvda will be teaming up to save a ton of energy at these 12,500 power plants in the U S alone. Not to mention the world. Fascinating times ahead Jet. Hybrids are happening.
