In my experience New Yorkers are direct, unapologetically honest, rushed, proud, and well wishing. They say F a lot, but it's common language, not anger.

You summed us up nicely and yes we treat F as an adjective. But that doesn't mean we are unkind and quite the contrary.

Years ago we were outsourcing payroll to Accenture India and they sent 3 guys and a woman over to the states for 3 months to cross train. The team leader came over in advance and on the 2nd day he came to me and asked if he could show me where they were staying. The place was a dump. I called my contact at Accenture and I said I can get them into an extended stay location we contract with at my company's price for the same you are paying for 3 rooms. I put the 3 guys in a suite complete with kitchen and the woman in her own room. In addition the place had a tennis court and swimming pool. Same day I took him to the Verizon store and told the guy there the flip phone Accenture gave him was a POS and I wanted the phone upgraded to an Iphone and use our company discount.

We'd go to dinner at a local Indian restaurant, took them to a baseball game, got them game shirts for ManU that we sponsored at the time and got to know them quite well and we still stay in touch on FB.

When they were leaving they asked me why I was so kind and I said I didn't want you to think Americans were assholes.
