Below is a blog post from ST that has a bit more technical details. I'll keep an eye on their developments for 400G/lane. They're using standard SiPh for 200G/lane like most others these days. Fascinating how SiPh developed over the last 12-24 months. TSMC is mass producing ring modulators with 76Ghz bandwidth! Absolutely nuts.
Perhaps LWLG's pivot also stemmed from the fact they need to concentrate on PICs for 400G/lane now and they certainly didn't have that internal capacity to get it done in time.
