BYD Reportedly Sees 10th Showroom Fire Since 2021 As Store Burns Down In China
BYD blames old wiring in the store's roof for the fire, but reports indicate that its showrooms catch fire pretty frequently

A massive fire broke out overnight at a BYD showroom on May 16, leaving little more than the bare framing of the building, the skeletons of a handful of vehicles, and soot. Fortunately, no one was killed in the blaze.

Videos shared online show large clouds of smoke billowing in the skies above the showroom, giving the entire surrounding area an orange hue as the flames reflected off the rising plumes. In the background, loud bangs and pops can be heard.

According to a report from NTDTV, this is the 10th fire at one of the automaker’s stores since October 2021, excluding factory incidents. The report also references a few fire incidents involving flatbed trucks transporting New Energy Vehicle models from BYD, including one in April 2024 and another on May 1, 2024. We have contacted BYD regarding these previous fires and will update this story upon receiving their response.

In October 2021, a fire broke out in a BYD 4S store in Hainan.
In April 2022, a fire broke out in a BYD 4S store in Shaoguan, Guangdong.
In May 2022, a fire broke out in the after-sales workshop of a BYD 4S store in Hengshui, Hebei Province.
On July 9, 2022, a fire broke out in a BYD 4S store in Xingning District, Nanning City, Guangxi.
On November 18, 2022, a fire broke out in BYD’s Phase 3 F6 factory building in Daya Bay West District.
On December 8, 2022, a BYD 4S store caught fire near Gongye Road in Erqi District, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province.
On June 1, 2023, a fire broke out in the material area of Workshop No. 1 at BYD’s Pangguan production base.
In May 2023, a fire broke out in a BYD 4S store in Jiangmen, Guangdong.
In December 2023, a fire broke out in a BYD 4S store in Tiexi District, Shenyang, Liaoning.
On December 18, 2023, a fire broke out in the BYD 4S store in Xinmaoyuan, Chengdu, Sichuan.
On December 30, 2023, a fire broke out in the exhibition hall of a BYD 4S store in Changhua, Binzhou, Shandong.

According to the Fuzhou Fire Department, the fire started from an electric vehicle parked inside the showroom. A video shared on Chinese social media showed a massive fire engulfing the showroom.

Unless these are two different incidents on the same day, the fire department says 1 EV inside the showroom spontaneously combusted and it was not in fact the wiring.
Im only aware of 4 or 5 fires connected to Tesla dealerships, one of which occurred back in 2017 & another in 2020. BYD has definitely seen more incidents in a shorter amount of time than Tesla.

PJ police investigate massive blaze initially attributed to electric car

Early reports described electric car catching fire, which destroyed over 200 vehicles

The fire that broke out early yesterday evening in the car park of a car rental company near Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado airport, destroyed more than 200 vehicles before being extinguished and was being reported in the early stages as having begun in a Tesla brand of electric car.

That detail however has not made it into today’s reports which allude only to PJ police investigating the causes.
It is unclear what changed overnight, but damages have been estimated at ‘millions of euros’ – and the cars damaged appear to have belonged to people who had left them (‘safely parked’) while travelling, by plane.

According to SIC last night the “fire started in an electric car parked on the top floor of the rental company’s car park, and spread to other cars. Several explosions were heard at the scene (…) The car hire company has inflammable material, mainly fuel for cars, which made firefighting difficult. Firefighters’ work was also hampered by the wind”.

Today, Lusa confirmed that the car park is “owned by a company that collected vehicles from passengers travelling by plane”

The blaze was eventually brought under control just before 11pm, with ‘aftermath’ operations lasting until 2am.

I posted about a Mercedes EV damaging 140 vehicles and it seems, not to be outdone, a Tesla may have took out 200 vehicles. Dont you just love EVs? How many more of these events have to occur before people realize how much of a hazard these vehicles are? Especially as these incidents only seem to get worse as the earths magnetic field continues to weaken.

How does EMF cause lithium batteries to experience thermal runaway and thus spontaneously combust? One of two main ways:

#1 - Overcharge/Discharge

With various impressed external magnetic field intensities an effect was noticed on the charge and discharge curves as well as the charge and mass concentrations within the batteries. With the two-dimensional model starting from 0mT and going to 1mT had the effect of discharging the battery faster and charging the battery faster. With the two-dimensional model starting from 1mT and going to -1mT had the effect of charging the battery faster. In either case an effect on the various characteristics of the battery were studied. With the experiments conducted on the two types of batteries the effect was more profound than subtle. Discharge times were twice as fast and charge times were equally
affected. With the smaller batteries they all generally charged faster under the presence of a magnetic field due to more uniform penetration. In the presence of the field they also discharged faster. The larger batteries would not see the same uniform penetration because only a small area of the battery sees the center of the coil it is placed on

In this dissertation, they found that external magnetic fields significantly increased charge and discharge rates in individual lithium battery cells; like shown in the following image. They also found that smaller batteries were impacted to a greater degree than larger ones. This is likely a reason Tesla is switching to larger battery cells in addition to employing magnetic attenuating honeycomb sandwich battery pack.

#2 - Stimulation of Dendrite Growth

Thermoelectric current causes asymmetric growth pattern of dendrites.

thermoelectromagnetic convection occurs in the vicinity of the solid-liquid interface, and vortices are generated between dendritic arms. It is shown that the thermoelectromagnetic convection has a major influence on dendritic morphology.
