Which brings me to this Tesla accident over the weekend. Its hard to say if this Tesla went out of control, as in the Tesla took over steering, with a high degree of certainty. Its also possible the driver simply lost control of it because this is not their vehicle and they don't know how-to handle Teslas. However there was nothing mentioned to cause the driver to suddenly lose control, like a police chase. Really could use some additional information like: how long they were driving this Tesla for? How erratically were they driving it beforehand? What sort of speed profile is logged? Any sort of sudden variation in its driving would indicate the Tesla glitched. Since there was about 5 potential out of control Tesla accidents over the weekend and this one has an unexplained reason why it suddenly veered offroad into buildings, I've included it in my list of out of control Teslas for 2023, with an asterisk.
Police: 2 injured, 2 houses damaged in hit-and-run crash involving stolen Tesla in east Columbus
The incident happened just after 12:15 p.m. in the 2800 block of Arrowsmith Drive when an unknown driver in a stolen Tesla lost control and went off the road, striking several items. While off the road, the vehicle struck two houses and two people, who police described as male and female.
Police said the female victim was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. The male victim was treated by medics at the scene.
According to police, the driver and occupants of the Tesla fled the scene after the collision.
