V is strongly implicated in the function of the immune system. When treating cancer you are generally killing fast growing cells and relying on the immune system to do the rest. Without knowing the details of all the cytokines affected, immune cells involved and stimulation/suppression of particular genes, it is quite possible to interfere with the observed response seen in the clinical trial showing efficacy fighting cancer -most likely in a positive way but also quite possible to be negative.
