That's a good, gutsy story, zab. The fact you have no misgivings about it goes toward the worth and merit in your action.

In late '67, think it was, or early '68, i signed off a freighter in Australia with $400 in a
pocket. At 25 still no idea what i would do with my life. New directions all the way.

In 1970, I enrolled in the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech. My intent was that, if I needed to go in the service, I was going to go in as an officer and do my best to avoid Vietnam. I was on Regimental Staff my senior year and completed my commitment as an ICBM launch officer in SAC. We dealt with situations such as yours without making a Broadway production out of it.
