She also reminded me of one of my more fondest memories in life. I was in a military academy in upstate New York, a member of the Battalion Staff, and there was this Major. He was from Boston, from a very well to do family, who had always got his own way on everything.

He knew my cousin had given his life due to his Vietnam service, but came home, and then died. Families just had to deal with sons who came home from war and were changed forever. But this Boston chap reminded me that only those kind actually serve in Vietnam, he was privileged, he would never serve, he was destined for a better life than serving in a stupid war.

After about three months of listening to this snob I decided he needed to know that someone like me, also has nothing to lose, including my standing as a member of the Battalion Staff. So as we were marching off the field, and we were getting ready to leave, he turned and said one last comment, so I let him know my true feelings, I decked the son of a bitch. I don't think anyone had ever done that to him, but I did, I got busted for it. But to this day it was worth it. Two months later I went one step farther and resigned from that military school, it was 1969, and I was about to take a new direction in life. That is still a good memory.
