You can try holding the "option" key while clicking of the "fan" icon at the top of the screen. See if there is an option for something like "stop network diagnostics". That's how it was started, I'm thinking you can stop it that way.
Channels can...and will overlap in your situation. You are definitely in the 2.4 ghz band. Just walk away for now...and when ready...use the link I provided. The only channels that do not overlap are 1,6,11. You are apparently dealing with adjacent channels.
