Channels can...and will overlap in your situation. You are definitely in the 2.4 ghz band. Just walk away for now...and when ready...use the link I provided. The only channels that do not overlap are 1,6,11. You are apparently dealing with adjacent channels.

Good luck!...and hopefully a call to Verizon can be avoided. In the meantime...cook up some bacon and watch the Caps/Bruins playoff game. It is currently tied 2-2 :)
