Thanks so much.
Yes, I live in an apartment building. And the building has free WiFi provided by Verizon. But I don't use it. I have my own Verizon account, for TV and Internet. Which costs more than I'm happy to pay, but I thought the additional security was worth it. However, I wonder if there could be some confusion about that. A year and a half ago, someone from Verizon came to do some work on the equipment in my living room closet. Either he or the apartment manager explained that the new tenant next door needed a line pulled in.
I assumed she, too, was getting her own account, or perhaps just TV. But what you say, along with the comments about a "congested" channel, makes me wonder if there was some kind of mixup. And if I've been overcharged ever since. I'll definitely have to talk to Verizon about that. So until I do that, I'll hold off on trying to change the channel myself.
As for the Library issue, what "other program" would I change it to? This stuff terrifies me. I think I see a chat with Apple tech support in my future. The computer didn't crash. Last night around ten, I was reading stuff online, at IHub and elsewhere, when suddenly clicking on "next" generated the message about Safari's inability to establish a secure connection with the server. That has happened before, mostly recently, but on those occasions waiting a little while and then rebooting worked. This time it didn't. However, it was different in the past, because the fan icon and System Preferences made it clear that I wasn't connected. Now, both say I am.
The computer is old. The hard drive died three or four years ago, and I had it replaced, so it isn't ancient.
I can't face trying anything more tonight; I don't want to make anything worse, and I believe I'm entirely capable of doing that. Tomorrow is another day.
Thanks again so much. I feel I at least understand some of what's going on than I did this afternoon. I wonder if that reporting thing is still generating more data. I closed the window, hoping it'd just stop.
