dude...i've done loads of poster presentations at academic conferences...they're generally presented by PhD students and sometimes by the postdocs...don't think i've ever seen a group leader present a poster let alone a director of research.
I guess SITC is semi-industry though so maybe there's some differences there. Plus this is the covid19 era though so who knows in this new world of zoom!
