I agree that a poster session wouldn’t be ideal for this type of announcement in a pre-COVID world, but in a pandemic they can’t jam a massive hotel banquet hall with 500 oncologists and neurosurgeons. In this virtual world, this poster session may be the best forum to present and perpetuate data.
Jammy, I appreciate what you saying about phd students presenting posters, but in this case we have two world renowned neurosurgeons and a chief scientist as presenters and authors.
And as you say it is the age of Covid-19 and Zoom, different times indeed?
The only point, that I was trying to express is that the posters are used to solicit funding. The posters serve as advertisements showcasing their project's, in hopes of bringing in private placement funding.
Jammy - That is largely true for in person poster sessions (although I always like presenting posters as the PI because of the opportunity to talk with people in detail about the study). Posters are definitely less prestigious than a plenary talk, whether virtual or in person (if prestige matters). In the virtual environment and if they expect TLD to be PR'd before SITC, then this virtual poster setting might be a great opportunity to talk freely and in great detail about the results.
