I believe it is a protein in fish that most of those would be allergic to. It might be possible that some of that protein might be in the oils, but it would be worth checking with Amarin to see if they test V for traces of that protein.
RM - Good point. It is my understanding that the protein responsible for fish allergies is eliminated from V in the production process
That is why fish allergy is NOT listed as a contraindication to V use. It is a precaution only.
I have no problem prescribing V to someone with a fish allergy that is not life threatening. If they had an anaphylactic reaction to fish then I would give them the first dose in a medically controlled setting to be safe.
The vast majority of people with fish allergies can take V.
