There ya go, then! Check out the bread and pastries at Whole Foods. I don't buy the pastries, but they look VERY tempting. And they do have macarons, though I don't know about madeleines. The bread--and yes, you can get sourdough loaves of various kinds--isn't insanely expensive, and it's excellent.

They bake in-store, so maybe quality varies. But the people at mine do an excellent job. And since some kinds are big sellers, they turn out a number of batches throughout the day. I've bought baguettes that were hot from the oven.

They also do a pretzel baguette that I've been meaning to try. And pretzel rolls. All kinds of different stuff.

And if you don't feel like cooking, get a rotisserie chicken. They're big, and very moist and tasty. The not-organic kind is only $7.99. Jeff Bezos's loss leader, and it does bring in shoppers.
