I hang a refillable sock for the finches. I have a box feeder for general use. They perch on the ledge which closes the feeding area if a squirrel gets on it. They've learned and avoid it now. Some of the birds throw what they don't like on the ground and squirrels get it. And I throw peanuts out for them
