Read the posts prior to the Iraq conflict, I raised my voice loud enough. I'll repeat very succinctly, the US with all its problems is a fine democracy, and when the people in power overstepped their bounds, they were kicked out, by the voice and and the vote of the people. That is not Nazism. Once in power, Nazism simply did not allow any debate or freedom of speech (including elections), and resistance verbal or otherwise was met by concentration camps. If we had a dictatorial system, you would have seen internment (concentration) camps as we had for Americans of Japanese descent in WWII. Anyone comparing the follies and missteps of the current administration to Nazism is simply blind to the reality of the situation.

consider this then from post 222129 (quoting William Rivers Pitt)

Before the sun came up on Wednesday, that shared heritage had been under a savage, unrelenting attack by men and women who have no respect for the idea and the dream which makes us all that we are as a people. The right to a trial has been shattered, the right to stand before your accuser has been removed, the right to be secure in home and person from governmental intrusion has been swept by the boards, and all by a president who once referred to the Constitution as "just a God damned piece of paper."

"It can't happen here" is a favorite theme of historical deniers. It happened in Germany. Is the US different or the people here just better? I live in a town with an active Klan chapter... 80 f%ckin' miles from Boston, MA and and within spitting distance of the Rhode Island border, home of the first synagogue in the new world. Don't speak to me of it not happening here. It will happen here as soon as we believe that it can't.

Sleep well.
