Endogenous progesterone makes the imbalance. AD will always favor women because they still have the reality of nature to deal with: each month throughout childbearing years, women have their S1r knocked out for several days.
Add in, countries where there was no contraception meant higher rate of pregnancies with accompanying rise in progesterone.

Appears women can either have pregnancies, or contraception; either way, damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

The approval of the pill only connected the dots that progesterone had an effect. It still does, I contend, just fewer cases than today’s epidemic, but always a higher rate than male counterparts.

Someone posted earlier an article that identified the rapid reduction of estrogen, during menopause, as being a key factor in why women have a higher incidence of AD than men. Estrogen is neuroprotective.
