Only Accredited Investors can hold private shares. Investment Banks and all the various institutional funds are not in the business of holding illiquid private securities that can only be bought/sold once or twice a year and then only under special circumstances. Such a plan would devastate the value of the common stock which is only being propped up by traders (both positive and short).
