How were there shares to borrow when no brokers kept an inventory of this stock?

Brokers may borrow from the pool of shares held in street name which were over 500 billion shares.

Only supposedly matched trades remember?

That has nothing to do with shorting if there was any.


There also may very well be billions of shreds of evidence in the dividends.

How might that be?

Good grief, stockhound. Shares are borrowed from customer margin accounts, not broker inventory. Learn the basics and get back to us.

It's simpler than that: there was never any significant short position in this stock. As someone pointed out earlier, there was just enormous dilution.
