You got it, TPS. They (MD's) are visited quite often by pharmaceutical salespeople providing them with free samples of their company's drugs. Can you say 'legal pushers'? I was in my doctor's office one time and he reaches in his desk drawer and gives me some pills to try for my back pain. The drawer was LOADED with free samples from drug companies provided by their sales staff. He said, "Here try these and let me know how it helps and I'll write you script for them". Prescription drugs must be regulated by MD's so continuous office visits are required. That makes for continuous billing. And that makes for more money for MD and big pharma. Addiction? Hate to say it, but that means more money for both, also. Don't ever underestimate the power of money and GREED. That IMO, I truly believe is what we are seeing with these multi billion dollar pharmaceutical conglomerates. They are totally caught up in their competitive financial power, that patient safety is an afterthought. They must answer to their stockholders of their financial status which is among the most powerful corporations in the world and it seems that nothing, not even patient safety takes precedents over their financial goals.
