There are several different issues mentioned there. The "Community Cops" as you referred to it is not relevant to the Greg situation except that he made it his most recent soapbox to harass Matt and the business. What you are not considering or many not be aware of is a long, long history of similar instances.

This post addresses "high overhead" customers from a business perspective:

In re "the harassing private messages" I don't know what that refers to specifically. We have a big enough job dealing with public messages; we do not get involved in PMs unless a user specifically requests us to confirm that there has been a threat made, or we become aware that PMs are being used for mass advertising or solicitation. The users of this site are adults and should be able to make their own decisions about which boards they read, and which users they choose to ignore, including PMs.

To your other point, it goes without saying that just as we are entitled to refuse service to anyone, users are free to take their business elsewhere. We believe in free enterprise, but not free advertising. <g>

Lastly, Greg seemingly sees himself as a lens for focusing on how the TOU is enforced. As such, wouldn't you think he would be aware of and respect the prohibition against multiple registrations? Then having the chutzpa to complain about the search feature after signing up for a FREE trial of premium features. I wonder how he would characterize the fact that we choose to let it go (for now), or why he is not being so righteous in his campaign for "equal" TOU enforcement in that instance.

Time to move on. Greg's situation is between himself and the site.

I may be reading this too quickly, but:

This is a clear pattern of behavior demonstrated by the offender, and there is a clear voluntary ignorance demonstrated by Matt.

Who are you talking about? If someone just rarely sends out PMs and gets turned in, I suggest blocking. If someone is constantly harassing numerous people, I'll do something about it. I don't like enforcing the private message issue, because I don't want to be accused of 'reading' them. However, if someone is a problem, they will get nailed.

That said, who is the user who is sending these PMs?
