When a situation like that comes up the conversation can, and is suggested to be taken to the Parking Lot Board. That board was set up for this exact purpose.
Hello 4God, I'm also a Free member where a PM is not an option to start, or continue an OT discussion, that most likely is just 'clutter' to many others.
While these OT posts 'need to be deleted' to lessen the work needed by others, especially Frees that can only do a Next, its really after the fact where most members have their pc monitor doing real-time reading during market hours.
Needed is a way to identify a post as being OT, let it have a small foot-print, the mechanics to automatically take the OT post onto a board designated for OT posts so that the text can then be typed in, and read by others by rgeir choice.
For example, if this post I'm typing in was already flagged as an OT post on this board then once I click onto the Submit Public Post button it will be placed onto an OT board as a regular public post, then its address as a #msg-xxx then inserted into what would have been the post using today's method: OT #msg-xxx
For sure this method would confuse many, but its real target is to identify a post as OT and have it be a one-liner in text size that contains the #msg-xxx link where the typed in can be read, but for most readers on that board it speeds up their ability to follow the thread without NEXT'n a lot of OT posts since only that initial one is showned, and it is a one-liner where the sometimes many follow-up OT posts are never encountered unless one decides to actually exit the board and enter the OT board.
A Free member does not have a Last Read feature so how one returns would be a mess.
change
to and let Frees have the Last Read feature then do a BACK and click the #msg-xxx (might work) or, each board has one of those Shadow types Douglas suggested years ago, Board_Name_OT and one can Add To Favorites it to read & reply to all OT posts.
