I know when I listen to the IDCC cc's, and Bill says things like this, it give me hope that more deals will happen soon. Unfortunately, I guess it is just false hope since not one additional new license has been signed since LG. How could he say that things are accelerating when we haven't signed ANY new deals since 1/15/06, over 7 months ago? Where are these folks he was talking about? If the pace of negotiations was accelerating, why did they sell en masse in June and July? Oh I know why they sold; they knew we shareholders would sit back quietly while they plundered our stock by changing again the LTC plan by rewarding themselves with a 3 for 1 deal for doing the job that they are being paid very well for without the 3 for 1 deal.

Q: Bill, now that Nokia is settled and you had some success earlier this year signing LG to a 2G and 3G agreement. Have you noticed any change in the negotiations or pace of negotiations in the past week on 3G licensees with other unlicensed manufacturers at this time?

A: Yes. The, what we've seen historically on these things is that these types of events actually do drive people to want to get deals done. We saw it with a ten acceleration following the, you go back a number of years ago we had Ericsson and Sony Ericsson take us [ph] on. We saw it with LG, we saw some acceleration with a couple, a number of folks and I'm certain that Nokia will create the same sort of environment for us because the number, it demonstrates a couple of things, it obviously, it demonstrates a very strong position for the Company from an ability to kind of just stay with these issues. And also these people, they say, well you know I don't want to get caught in that same situation and have a very substantial liability. So it's obviously a little early coming off the Nokia deal but I expect that it will have the same sort of – give us the same sort of amended as past deals have.

.."in order to meet goals, they may more easily give up on conditions that would have benefitted IDCC" - yes, and the deferred revenues account demonstrates the degree to which this management has sucked in cash, in advance of revenues, at an obviously compelling discount to the licensee i.e. who knows what cost to shareholders, to make cash flow targets for bonus purposes.

And, to add insult to injury to shareholders, much of this greatly discounted accelerated cash flow is used to buy back stock i.e. fund repurchase of excessive ISO grants, rather than pay dividends.

olddog967, you said
If they are doing their job as they are already getting paid to do, just what else can they be expected to do in order to finalize more licenses in a shorter time frame
They could come up with some real nice product or idea of a product that could convince the guys to license....they could structure the deal in a way that leaves both the other company and IDCC in a win-win situation....they could pursue matters more aggresively (above and beyond their duties) and get a new license....the point is there could be lot more to licensing than what we can understand or think of. If IDCC's patents could sell by themselves and that is all IDCC does, then we wouldn't be needing the management, right. What I am trying to say is give the guys some time (7 months afyer LG is seeming long for many people...but, it could be normal in licensing....we have seen how NOK behaved even after ICC and judge confirmation....if it is so simple and straight forward, then NOK, Samsung and the "company with integrety" would have signed long back). They just announced the new "more or nothing" scheme for half of their RSUs...let's see how they do and what their goals and targets are.
My intent is not to say that you are saying anything against mgmt...but, there are posters on this board who just grab the posts and twist them to make their point.

Goodluck All!

Olddog, you are a must read poster

You consistently provide great research and facts to the board. You are on point, concise and easy to read. You also include your well reasoned thoughts and analysis. Unlike me, you are able to avoid throwing in digs at others that distract from the point. Sometimes I agree with you, occasionally I disagree and sometimes, like the referenced post, I say wow, I never thought of that. Thank you so much for all you contribute. You are a first ballot Hall of Fame poster in my book. I hope to meet you at the Houston 100 and buy you a drink to toast your generosity.
