At a major international athletic event I attended in Montreal the scoreboard and signage were almost entirely in French. There was a young girl sitting near me that I overheard saying she was from Ontario. I assumed she might know enough French to translate a phrase.
But my request annoyed her: Her reply amounted to: "I'm from Ontario. I don't speak that crap!"
This was back when Quebec separatism was a big issue. I've always wondered how typical her reaction was.
