FFS,
I have been a victim of naked shorting myself. I lost $19 K myself in less than 5 minutes due a shorting scheme. When the Iraq war first started in 2001 there was much press about the Humvees not having enough armourment to protect our military personnel. A company ( USGA ) was developing a turret made from nano fiber to protect the roof machine gunner. It weighed less than 200 lbs and could be supported by the Humvees roof. I thought this was an excellent investment from a practical and a patriotic points of view. Usually. My investment strategy in small start ups is to invest in run ups, take my profit and get out. I usually do not stay invested long unless it is a very good reason. Anyway, there was a gentleman from Idaho who had a news letter service, a shorting house, he would recommend to his subscribers when to short a stock, he was also associated by some means to a news service. He lodged a complaint with the SEC using a phony name, Nick Tracy, which anyone can do, but then had the news service report it early one morning after the complaint was lodged. Then he had all his subscribers short the stock that morning which caused a selling run. They eventually put this small company out of business and I read an article months later about this guys phony operation and that he was being prosecuted. I never got my money back, but it was good to know that this dirt bag lost everything plus jail time.
